When Do Beliefs Become Facts? Religious Faith Or Scientific Proof?

in Evidence

It seems like there are plenty of people who believe in religions all over the world who base most of their beliefs on faith, with very little scientific proof or satisfactory evidence to support a logical conclusion to their beliefs.

First let's look at a fact, a fact would be anything that could be supported by some sort of evidence or proof that could provide anyone with an easy explanation. Let me give you an example of a fact.

Some plants grow in the ground. By using the words some, I have provided a safety net for those plants that might not grow in the ground. To prove this point and make it a fact, all I would need to do is to take a few plants, put them in the ground and see if they grow.

Let's say, that I take 10 different kinds of plants and plant them in the same ground. At the end of the month, I noticed that nine out of the 10 plants have grown at least 1 inch. I have now proven my point that some plants grow in the ground.

Now let's look at a belief. I believe in God and I believe that God created our world and everything in the universe. There is no satisfactory scientific evidence to support these claims. Therefore it will remain a belief and will not be a fact, until there is enough evidence to support this claim.

Here's where the problem begins, intelligent people all over the world are teaching other intelligent people that there is a God and that he did create the universe and these people believe it. They don't need any proof, they simply choose to believe that this is the way it is.

If you're going to base your life entirely on faith, and require very little proof, you're going to be susceptible to every little push or pull within your religion. If your religion looks at homosexual activities as wrong, looks at women as subservient and believes you can only find salvation through one specific religion, you will simply believe this and won't require any evidence.

If you're not going to require any proof for anything that your religious leaders say, the minute that they change their beliefs, yours will be changed also. Education is the only way to free yourself from the bondage of some religious beliefs.

There is no need to live your life entirely on faith, without any supporting evidence. I would suggest to anyone reading this article, to start studying the origins of your religion. The truth is always going to be the truth, you just need to make a conscious choice, whether you choose to accept it or denying it.
